Do You Write Website Content, or Do I Need to Provide It?

TL;DR

  • It depends on the service. We write monthly blog posts and Google Business Profile updates. For website projects, we settle content up front.
  • On a retainer, you provide the content. We add it to your site.
  • You’re the expert on your business. We need your knowledge, photos, and bios no matter who does the writing.
  • We use AI for first drafts, but the finished content won’t be generic AI copy.

Who Writes What

  • Monthly blog posts and Google Business Profile updates: we write them. See How Does Monthly Blog Posting and Approval Work?
  • New websites and redesigns: Most projects, clients provide all text, image and document content. Projects can include content writing for additional fee. Your content delivery timing to us affects your launch date. See What Happens During a Website Design Project, Step by Step?
  • Webmaster Retainer: you send the text, and we add it. Content writing isn’t part of the retainer.
  • Standalone copywriting projects: we don’t take those on.

What We Need From You

Even when we write it, the expertise comes from you. AI can help organize information, but it can’t know what happens inside your business unless you share it.

  • Your knowledge. What you do, who you do it for, and what makes you different.
  • Photos. Real photos of your work, team, or location. We’re not there, so we can’t take local photos for you.
  • Bios. Background, credentials, and the details that build trust.
  • Topics. The services you want to be found for.

How We Use AI for Content

We use AI to help with first drafts, and we’re open about that. The finished content gets a human edit, and for website content, you confirm it’s accurate before it goes live – if approval first is included in the service. Approval delays can affect marketing and launch dates. See Do You Use AI Tools on My Website, and Can You Train My Team?

What Webmaster For Hire Recommends

  • Fix thin pages with useful detail. A page doesn’t need to be long for the sake of being long. It does need to give Google and your customers enough useful information. We will send recommendations when we find pages needing more information.
  • Write for people and search engines. Search engines and AI need words to understand your page.

:: Common Questions ::

Can You Strengthen a Thin Service Page?

Yes. A thin page is one without enough content for visitors or search engines to understand what you offer. We add useful detail, like what the service includes, who it’s for, and common questions. That work starts with what you tell us about the service.
