TL;DR
- To add a team member: open your team page or team section, copy an existing member’s entry, swap in the new name, title, photo, and bio, and save.
- To remove one: delete or draft their entry. Then remove their website login and take them off your form emails.
- Match the photos. Same shape, same style, so the page looks planned.
- Rather not do it yourself? Send us the details, and we’ll add or remove them.
How Do I Add a Team Member to My Website?
First, find where your team lives. It may be a section on your team or about page, or its own Team or Staff section in your dashboard. See How Do I Edit Text on My WordPress Website?
- Open the team page or Team section in your WordPress dashboard.
- Copy an existing member’s entry. In the page editor, select the whole member block (photo, name, and bio), open the three-dot menu, and choose Duplicate. Starting from a copy keeps the layout the same. In a separate Team section, click the Add button at the top of the list (the exact label varies by site) and fill in the same fields the others use.
- Add the name, title, and credentials.
- Replace the photo. Use a headshot the same shape and style as the others.
- Add the bio.
- Move the entry where it belongs in the order.
- Save, then check the page on a computer and a phone.
What Should I Gather for a New Team Member?
- Name and job title, plus any credentials or license number your field requires.
- Location, if you have more than one.
- A professional headshot. See What Size and Format Should Photos Be for My Website?
- A bio.
- A booking link, if clients book with this person. Beth won’t add someone to a booking page until they have one.
Why Should Team Photos Match?
Mixed photos make a team page look thrown together. On one client’s team page, Beth gave every headshot the same rounded corners so they’d look “more consistent and professional, less ‘tossed there’ and more purposeful.”
New headshots can go further than the team page. Beth also puts them on the Google Business Profile and offers to update social media profiles.
How Do I Remove a Former Team Member?
- Delete or draft their entry on the team page or in the Team section. Drafting hides it but keeps it.
- Check other pages that mention them, like a booking page or service page.
- Remove them from your form emails. Each form’s notification settings list who gets messages.
- Remove their website login. Go to Users, hover over their name, and click Delete. If they wrote any posts, WordPress asks what to do with them. Choose “Attribute all content to” another user to keep them. Then click Confirm Deletion.
Removing the bio isn’t enough. During one site cleanup, Beth asked, “Which administrators still need access to the website, and who should go?”
Rather Have Us Update the Team Page?
Send us the details and photo for each new person, or the name of anyone leaving. We’ll update the team page, booking links, forms, and logins on your Webmaster Retainer.
What Webmaster For Hire Recommends
- Use matching headshots for everyone.
- Remove logins as soon as someone leaves.
- Keep bios current. Update them when titles, credentials, or roles change.
:: Common Questions ::
Should Every Business Owner Be on Our About Page?
Usually, yes. As Beth told one client, “It’s common to have all business owners and managers on an about page.”
What If Only One Owner Wants a Personal Page?
Keep the about page as it is and add a separate page for that owner, one that isn’t in your menu. Beth has set up a hidden page like that instead of taking anyone off the about page.
