TL;DR
- Services and prices on a page: edit the page, the same way you edit any text on your site.
- Products in an online store: edit each one under Products in your WordPress dashboard.
- Check every place a price shows up, like your home page, a price list PDF, or your booking system.
- Rather not do it yourself? Send us one list of changes, and we’ll make them on your retainer.
Where Do My Products, Services, and Prices Live?
Usually in more than one place. Before you change a price, find everywhere it appears:
- Your pages. Service pages, pricing tables, and homepage sections.
- Your online store, if you have one. Each product has its own listing.
- Files on your site, like a PDF menu or price sheet.
- Outside systems. Prices in a booking, scheduling, or payment system are changed in your account with that company, not in WordPress.
How Do I Update a Service or Price on a Page?
- Log into your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Pages and click Edit under the page.
- Click the service name, description, or price and type your change.
- Save your changes, then check the live page. If you still see the old price, clear your browser’s cache (the saved copy of pages your browser keeps).
If your site uses a page builder (a drag-and-drop design tool), the editing screen looks different. See How Do I Edit Text on My WordPress Website?
How Do I Update a Product in My WooCommerce Online Store?
- Go to Products in your WordPress dashboard.
- Click the product’s name to open it.
- Change what you need: the name, description, photo, or price. Most stores have a regular price and a separate sale price.
- Click Update to save.
- To add a product, click Add new product, then fill in the name, description, price, and photo.
- To hide a product for now, switch it to draft. To remove it for good, move it to the trash.
How Do I Remove a Service I No Longer Offer?
- Take it off the page, and anywhere else it’s listed.
- Check your menu and links. Other pages may still point to it.
- If it had its own page, a redirect can send old links somewhere useful, homepage works, too. See Why Do Links Break When I Rename Pages or Files?
Rather Have Us Make the Changes?
That’s what our Webmaster Retainer is for. As Beth asked one client, “Do you want to learn how to make the changes, or have someone change them for you?” Either one is covered.
Send one list: what to remove, what to add (with a name, description, price, and photo for each), and new prices for anything that stays.
Big lists take longer on small plans. As Beth told one client, “If you give 5 hours of work on a 1-hour plan, then the work would be spread out over 5 months if you don’t want to temporarily increase your plan.” See How Do Webmaster Retainer Hours Work?
What Webmaster For Hire Recommends
- Keep a list of everywhere your prices appear. Then one price change never gets missed in a second spot. Don’t forget to remember that prices may appear in an FAQ.
- Change all the spots at once, so customers don’t see two different prices.
- Sending changes to us? Send one complete list instead of a string of separate emails.
:: Common Questions ::
Can I Schedule a Sale Price?
In many online stores, yes. The sale price often has a schedule option with a start and end date. Price changes on regular pages are made on the day. If you’d like us to make one, tell us the date, and we’ll put it on our calendar.
What If an Item Fits in More Than One Section?
It can appear in both places. Update it in each spot. On our Webmaster Retainer, tell us where it belongs, and we’ll place it for you.
