# Can You Review My Website and Tell Me What Needs Fixing?

## TL;DR

- **Yes.** Site reviews with suggestions for improvement are part of our Webmaster Retainer.
- **It starts with a conversation.** Tell us what's bothering you, so we know where to look.
- **We need access to look around.** An administrator login to your site and access to your hosting account.
- **Fixes start with evidence.** We look at the actual error before we change anything.

## How a Website Review Works

1. **We talk it through.** A quick conversation tells us what you're seeing and what you want your site to do.
2. **You give us access.** We need two logins, listed below.
3. **We look around.** We go through your site and your hosting setup.
4. **You get our suggestions.** What we'd improve on your site.

## The Access We Need

- **An administrator login to your website.** An administrator has the top level of access on a standard WordPress site.
- **Delegate access to your hosting account, if your host offers it.** Delegate access is a separate login your hosting company lets you give someone, so you never share your own password. We need full access, except for purchasing.

Send new passwords by text instead of email.

## When Something's Broken

We need to see the error before we can fix it. For bigger jobs, we gather the evidence first.

Take a PHP upgrade (PHP is the programming language WordPress runs on). If your site breaks on the new version, we pull the error logs (your server's record of what went wrong), roll back, fix the problem, and try again. If your site might go down while we test, we tell you first.

## When We Take Over a Website

A review is where we start. We go through every premium plugin on the site and decide what to keep, what to replace, and what to drop. See [Do Premium WordPress Plugins Need to Be Renewed Every Year?](/knowledge-base/wordpress-care-and-maintenance/premium-wordpress-plugin-license-renewal/)

## :: Common Questions ::

### Do I Need a Retainer to Get a Review?

No. Without a retainer, a review is billed as consulting time. Retainer hours cost less than our regular hourly rate, so a retainer is the cheaper route if you'll want fixes afterward. See [What's Included in a WordPress Support Plan or Webmaster Retainer?](/knowledge-base/working-with-webmaster-for-hire/wordpress-support-plan-vs-webmaster-retainer/)

### Will You Fix What You Find?

Yes. Fixes the retainer covers come out of your hours. Work it doesn't cover, like a redesign or custom development, is quoted separately.

## Want a Second Set of Eyes on Your Website?
