Q: Why do I need Search Engine Optimization (SEO) services?

A: Search engine optimization (the organic/free listing area of the search engines – Google, Yahoo!, Bing and the like) is the ‘card catalog’ of the internet. This is where people go to search and find the sites that they desire (products/services/information). If you’d like to have your site found when people search keywords that are related to your site – you need to work the SEO strategy.

Q: Do I need SEO or Pay-Per-Click Advertising (PPC)?

If you are relying on your website to bring in new buyers, prospects or for ad revenue, then, yes, you need to do online marketing. SEO is for long-term stable link placement and PPC is for fast insertion and ranking in the search engines. They are both ongoing. With PPC, once you stop buying the ad space or your budget is met – your ad/link disappears. With SEO, your link will drop rankings if you stop working the strategy but has a better chance of sticking around.

Q: How do backlinks work with SEO?

Backlinks are your site’s web address out on other websites with a clickable link back to your site. Getting your site out on high trust authority (Google trusted) sites help increase your site’s ranking in all search engines. Rankings are where you are listed in any given search result. The lower the number the better the ranking… page 1 is more desirable than page 30.

Q: How long does an SEO campaign take?

An SEO campaign can take time to show results because the search engines run on their own schedule and depends on the competition for your keywords. There are times these campaigns have a lag in order to not be influenced by short-term factors. It can take 6-months, 8-months to a full year to see great movement in results –depending on how difficult the competition is for a particular keyword or keyword phrase.

Q: Can you guarantee me a top ranking?

In PPC, you can guarantee top ranking if you bid the highest cost per click. In SEO, the algorithm changes consistently and your competitors are working the strategy, too.

“February 2011, Google Panda is a change to Google’s search results ranking algorithm that was first released. The change aimed to lower the rank of “low-quality sites” or “thin sites”, in particular “content farms”, and return higher-quality sites near the top of the search results.”

Q: What is Google Penguin?

The goal is to obtain quality backlinks to your site and not just buy 1,000s of low trust links. Less with higher quality is better than more with lower.

Q: What is Google Hummingbird?

Hummingbird is about ‘context’ rather than ‘content’. Meaning that Google looks at full content on the page to decide if it’s relevant to a search query. Keeping your onsite articles relevant is more important than keyword stuffing.

Q: What is Google Pigeon?

“Google Pigeon is the code name given to one of Google’s local search algorithm updates. This update was released on July 24, 2014. The update is aimed to increase the ranking of local listing in a search. Q: What is Google Possum?

September 2016, Google rolled out the Possum update. “Google’s latest algorithm update is a change to local search, with seemingly positive results for local businesses and for users. The update has put a lot more emphasis on the user’s location, which means users are getting more accurate results. Google’s filters for local search and organic search are evolving and part of this change means the two filters are now working more independently from one another.”
